Romania: Traffic Restrictions for Heavy Vehicles Due to Heatwave in 14 Counties on July 8

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Romania will impose traffic restrictions on heavy vehicles (over 7.5 tonnes) on all motorways, expressways, and national roads across 14 counties due to extreme temperatures (38–41°C) under a Red Alert issued by the National Meteorological Administration (ANM).

Affected Counties:

  • Prahova, Dâmbovița, Argeș, Ilfov, Ialomița, Călărași, Giurgiu, Teleorman, Dolj, Olt, Vâlcea, Gorj, Mehedinți, Buzău

Exemptions:

The following categories of transport are exempt from the restriction:

  • Passenger transport

  • Transport of live animals and perishable goods of animal or plant origin

  • Emergency and force majeure intervention vehicles

  • Funeral transport

  • Postal deliveries

  • Emergency medical equipment deliveries

  • Fuel distribution

  • Refrigerated cargo under controlled temperature

  • Vehicle towing services

  • Water and food distribution to disaster areas

  • Specialised sanitation vehicles

  • Bottled water transport

  • Agricultural products transport

  • Military transports for multinational exercises

  • Distribution of various food products such as:

    • Fresh baked goods and confectionery

    • Conserved pastries and sweets

    • Sugar and related products

    • Cocoa, chocolate, pasta, coffee, tea, spices

    • Nutritional products, juices, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including mineral water

Additionally, CNAIR’s own equipment and machinery, as well as subcontracted machinery involved in ongoing infrastructure projects, are exempt from these restrictions.

Possible Extension or Lifting of Restrictions:

CNAIR has stated that, depending on weather developments, the restrictions may be lifted, extended, or modified. Further updates will be communicated based on ANM’s forecasts.
