The first week of August will bring extraordinary challenges for drivers across Europe: from 4 to 10 August, a major police raid called “Speed” will take place, coordinated by ROADPOL, the European Road Policing Organisation (RPO), a network of more than 30 countries.
This is no ordinary check.
This is Europe’s largest coordinated action against speeders. Experience from previous years shows: thousands of officers, millions of checks, hundreds of thousands of fines.
How will controls work?
-
Both marked and unmarked police crews will be on the roads
-
Mobile and fixed speed cameras, lasers, video surveillance equipment
-
The aim is to reduce the number of deaths on Europe’s roads. Around 20 000 people die in accidents in Europe every year, many of them due to speeding.
For drivers and hauliers:
-
The ROADPOL “Speed” timetable can be found in your app under “Good to know”
-
The fine amounts for each country – in the “Traffic rules” section of the app
-
Be extra vigilant – controls will be particularly active throughout the week, with unexpected inspections likely
Important:
Drivers are urged to stick to the speed limit – fines will be applied without exception and enforcement will cover urban, motorway and regional roads.
Don’t run away from 4-10 August – it’s better to follow the rules than risk fines and safety!
